William Faulkner said: "Don't bother just to be better than your contemporaries or predecessors. Try to be better than yourself."
Maybe that is an idea that needs to be reaffirmed in this day and time. So much emphasis seems to be put on 'externals' -- get this, get that, win this competition (to beat another, not to be the best you can be), and so on. It's doing good for the sake of doing good "good enough" anymore? Or being the best you can be without having to denigrate another? Just a thought and something to think about.
