Really? Everything!

Below is the text for this past week's sermon. Never let it be said that just presenting/reading the Scripture isn't enough to make you start asking questions about your daily living and some practical aspects of how you/we live.
Of course, no one 'wants' to take this passage literally! Is it really talking about 'communism'! Does it really threaten our whole way of life and the system of capitalism?--The basis and fabric for which we live our daily lives? If we shared our goods and money, who would be in charge? What is really at the center of our lives? How does idolatry fit into this?--i.e., what is that we live our lives for? What do our lives rotate around? What (who) is the focus of our lives? Seems like Jesus talked about "selling everything" and of course we don't take HIM seriously on that! (Do we?) So what's going on here?
If the following passage doesn't bother you, even make you a little angry or uncomfortable, then maybe you (and I) need to read it again (and again and again...) Maybe it's not meant to just 'sound nice and sweet'--maybe its meant to make us sit up and listen AND Think!!! Or maybe it's meant to really make us confront what possesses us.

(Acts 4:31-35) NRSV
[31] When they had prayed, the place in which they were gathered together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God with boldness.
[32] Now the whole group of those who believed were of one heart and soul, and no one claimed private ownership of any possessions, but everything they owned was held in common.
[33] With great power the apostles gave their testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was upon them all.
[34] There was not a needy person among them, for as many as owned lands or houses sold them and brought the proceeds of what was sold.
[35] They laid it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to each as any had need.
